LAAC will recreate Asco’s “Instant Mural” at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Collective member Tiffany Trenda will be taped to an outside wall with a projected image. The image will make the wall and Trenda appear as though this were the original performance of 1972. Another part of the image will have a twitter feed of #InstantMural (the title of the performance). We will invite the public to tweet their thoughts on the current political landscape. The more hashtags that are posted, the lighter the image becomes. Through time and tweets, the image will become completely white, referencing the whitewashing of Asco’s 1972, “Spray Paint” at LACMA, where the collective used graffiti as an act of protest against the discrimination of Chicano artists by one of the museum’s curators.
